Why should my car cut out when the abs illuminates.?

Whilst im driving the ABS illuminates randomly on the instrument panel at any time. All lights then dim, horn stops functioning, the steerring becomes stiff until then the car shuts down on me. The car does not sart afterwards until car has been jump sarted. The question is why should the car shut down with the abs not in function, as breaking should still work as standard. Why does this car do this, its very frustrating. Anyone have any answers
